“I live in Astoria Houses and work as a housekeeper in Long Island. It’s a long ways. I leave home at 6:30 AM and I have to be at work by 9 AM. My work varies on a daily basis. Today it could be very good and tomorrow it could a whole different world.
“I frequently commute into Brooklyn. I go to Flatbush to see my friend at the hair salon she owns. Sometimes I drive, but it’s crazy getting there. Sometimes I take the subway, but that takes a long time. I take the N to 34th in Manhattan, and then switch trains.
“I take a few buses in Astoria but I don’t like any of them. I take the 18, 19 and the 102. I don’t like being on the bus for too long. I start to feel sick. It’s too crowded. I don’t like hearing other people’s conversations.
“I like that the BQX would be close to the waterfront. I want to see different parts of the city to see what’s new and what’s going on. I would love to go to the Navy Yard. I just want to see what it’s like. It’s a little different from the rest of Brooklyn.
“That’s why I’m so happy for the streetcar. It would be great! No need to look for parking because I wouldn’t have to drive my car. Looking for parking is hard especially after driving around to get from place to place. It would help my friends and neighbors because they don’t like to have to drive everywhere. It would be good for more people to take public transit instead of relying on the road.
“I would enjoy the whole length of the waterfront when the BQX opens. I would go to the Navy Yard. Just getting down to Brooklyn would be worth it.”
